Stepping into a New World

This six session contemplative coaching community is specifically for Ministry Leaders who are coming to know that returning to “business as usual” is not an option... and that we actually don’t know what “business” will look like for us and our churches.

A global pandemic, a heightened awareness of systemic racism and a mounting climate crisis have forced us as church leaders, out of the “cathedral” and into the “commons.” We are now coming to see and know things about ourselves and our faith communities that were previously hidden from view. What we are seeing is at the same time, unsettling and encouraging. What we are coming to know is that returning to “business as usual” is not an option... and that we actually don’t know what “business” will look like for us and our churches.

As we step into this new world of ministry, we will all need companions to join us as we “wake up” to the grief, delight and rigour of that which is ours to do. If you are coming to know that returning to the way things were is no longer an option, please join us. If you desire safe-enough, authentic conversation about those things that are foremost on your mind and in your heart, please join us!

What you’ll Receive:

Session Components:

  • framing and teaching

  • integrative contemplative practice (ie. attention to God’s invitation in your life and the life of your faith community)

  • opportunity to reflect and explore the new world that is emerging for you and your faith community

  • opportunity to clarify commitments and be faithful to your best intentions

Session Outline:

  1. What are we coming to know about ourselves and how we do ministry?

  2. The shape of leadership in a new world

  3. The Power of Playfulness and Unforced Rhythms I - Choosing personal practices and life rhythms

  4. The Power of Playfulness and Unforced Rhythms II - Choosing community practices and life rhythms

  5. Welcoming Resistance as the Catalyst for Transformation

  6. Where to from here? - Activating Next Steps

Content of our sessions will be fuelled primarily by:

  • emergent learning from GAIA: Global Activation of Intention and Action, MIT’s current Presencing Institute offering. GAIA is an impromptu global infrastructure for sensemaking, for leaning into our current moment of disruption and letting this moment move us toward civilizational renewal. Global Activation of Intention and Action

  • wisdom from Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead material

Cost:

Given that this pandemic time leaves us with varying financial means, Threshold Commons is currently using a gift economy approach. We’d invite you to determine a gift amount for this community of practice that is within your financial capacity. Any contribution you choose to make will enable Threshold Commons to offer future contemplative coaching opportunities. We trust your judgment as to what represents both fair remuneration for this group coaching experience and reflects your commitment to fully participate. We’re aware that not providing a specific registration fee is unconventional. Please contact us if you’d find it helpful to have a conversation about your contribution.

Schedule:

This upcoming community of practice will meet weekly in January and February. The exact dates and times will be determined once participant registration has been confirmed. Note that registration will be limited to 10 participants in order to create a safe space for authentic conversation.
